Benson Chen is a Visiting Researcher in the Department of Clinical Neurosciences (University of Cambridge) and Senior Research Fellow in the Department of Medicine (University of Auckland, New Zealand).
A qualified neurologist and fellowship trained neuro-ophthalmologist, Benson completed his PhD studies in Professor Patrick Yu Wai Man’s group in 2024, focusing on measuring the experience of individuals living with mitochondrial causes of vision loss (ION-PROM study). His research, in collaboration with the LHON Society and Cure ADOA Foundation, led to the development of the Cambridge mitochondrial visual impairment – inherited optic neuropathy impact questionnaire (mitoVISION-IQ), a questionnaire developed to assess the impact of vision loss caused by LHON and DOA on visual functioning, social functioning, and mental wellbeing.
As a Visiting Researcher, Benson continues to be involved with neuro-ophthalmology-related research within the mitoCAMB group including clinical trials and clinical studies for DOA and LHON. Benson is happy to be contacted by other researchers or patient groups with an interest in patient-reported outcome measures.
